The Quake Museum: An Interactive Earthquake Center

The Quake Museum is a new interactive attraction for the whole family in Lisbon, founded by Mayor Carlos Moidas. It is a space with a total area of 1,800 square meters with numerous options for entertainment. The implementation of the project cost 8 million euros, and today everyone has the opportunity to feel the atmosphere of the 1755 earthquake.

This thematic experience offers many options for maximum immersion in the atmosphere of 18th-century Lisbon. The immersive program includes several rooms where visitors can experience the full spectrum of the earthquake. The creators managed to successfully combine history, science, and emotions, making the attraction interesting for visitors of all ages.

A high level of interactivity is reached by using new technologies to transport visitors back to the day when Lisbon suffered from an earthquake. At that time it was the fourth largest city in the world, but natural disasters radically changed the situation.

The attraction is a unique chance to make a journey in a time machine, discovering the mysteries of the city that was lost, but then rebuilt in all its beauty the way we know it today. The interactive displays demonstrate the seismic activity while the visitors are walking by the streets of old Lisbon.

Through a scientific and historical perspective, the visitors will know everything about the earthquake's effects in Lisbon, same as the facts about the social leaders and villains who played key roles in the reconstruction. You'll also experience an earthquake in a Quake simulator, a room built using the latest technology to provide a shaky but safe experience.

But the main part of the journey is the simulator. The unique room was created to let the visitors feel the experience of a real earthquake, being safe and protected at the same time.

The Lisbon Earthquake Museum is an invitation to discover the wonders and horrors of that era and watch the drama unfold before your eyes.
